Origin of "Novie Scooter" name

How did we come up with the name, "Novie Scooter"?

The Surf Scoter is a sea duck common in our area.  It's scientific name is Melanitta perspicillata.  It is commonly, and incorrectly, pronounced 'scooter' by the people in this area of the province.  The "Novie Scooter" is named after the slang pronunciation of this bird's name.  We also liked this name because we thought it brought to mind the boat scooting quickly over the surface of the water, which the "Novie Scooter" certainly does.
