Chapter 2

"Class, we have a new student in our school. This is Will Hunter; he comes from all the way from Europe . Make him feel welcomed." Will glanced up searching around the room as if searching for something. Finally the teacher instructed him where to sit. Unfortunately, he sat next to me. Oh god, what am I suppose to say to him? He didn’t say anything, so neither did I. Derek made a comment about how he looked like a pretty boy. He was right though.

"Derek, I guess you're staying with me after school for detention." The teacher said. "That’s not fair!" He complained as everyone else laughed at him.

Mr. Garren began his lesson after we finished writing our journal entry. He started to talk about animals and their environment, and asked us to write a 5 page essay on any animal we choose to our liking, next to giving us a research project on Myths, and Legends.

Everyone groaned. "That’s too much Teach, how about we pay you for our grade?" Everyone agreed with Derek.

I really didn’t care if he is going to give us homework or not. What else do I have to do anyway? I couldn’t pay attention anymore. Something had me scared. I realized it was me being next to Will that had me feeling this way. Something felt ominous. I was scared of him, it told me to be frightened and know he was dangerous. But how can he possibly be dangerous? Stay away from him. I heard a voice inside my head say.

"No." I automatically said.

"What?" Will asked.

His voice was smooth. It made my ears tingle just by hearing it. And it surprised me that his English was so perfect, I mean from someone coming from all the way from Europe . He looked at me curiously. A shiver ran down my spine.

"Nothing, nothing. Just...talking to myself." He quickly looked away. A girl behind me started to laugh at my stupidity.

The bell rang. Thank goodness. Everyone started to shuffle.

"Hey! Wolff" Will turned around as I did.

"What?" I asked.

Derek came up to me. "I’m throwing' a party, black n' white. I was hoping you could be my date for it. It'll be in 3 weeks though. Give you enough time." I started to laugh. "You're kidding me, what’s the occasion?"

“Turning 18, forgot?” Derek was a popular guy, but he should know better than to ask me. He knew I never dated anyone anymore. He looked at me seriously though. "Uhm, I- I don’t know. I don’t know if I have anything planned, but I'll let you know." With that said, he was satisfied and I got my bag, swung it over my shoulder. Will wasn’t there anymore. Next class went by quicker. It was another movie day. So I never had to do homework. It was over, and it was soon Lunch.

"Hey Wolff." Jamie was already in the lunch line. He let me cut in front of him. "Hey, were you invited to Derek's party?"

He automatically said no. "Why? He asked you out, didn’t he?”

I nodded.

He gave a groan, “And you accepted his invite?”

“No. Well, not yet anyway.”

We finally reached the front where we paid to get our food. “5 dollars.” The lunch lady took out her hand ready to take Jamie’s money. Once he paid we moved on. “Thanks.” He looked at me waiting for me to choose so he could too.

“So are you?” His question caught me by surprise.

“James Grant, are you jealous?” He laughed and chose his food before I did. When I finally got my food, we sat down on a table for two outside.

“No, I’m not jealous. What bothers me is he didn’t invite me. We’re friends. I’ve known him longer than I’ve known you. How could he do that?” His voice was raising and his expression began to get tense.

“Whoa, calm down. He probably didn’t tell you yet.” He made a fake ‘Hah’. I dug into my food at last. When he didn’t touch his food for the longest time I finally spoke.

“Don’t worry. I won’t go. We can go hang out together that day. I can’t go without Jamie bugging me everywhere.”

He gave me a warm smile. “Thanks Jenny.”

“Hey! You know better than to call me Jenny. Jen is fine, Jennifer. I even let everyone call me Wolff, but never Jenny.”

He always thought I was crazy by getting picky with my name.

I stopped eating. There he was, the new guy. A cold feeling again. The shiver ran down my spine making my whole body tingle and Will’s eyes met mine. He looked into my soul searching through me and it felt like I was about to explode. I tried to shake it off but to no use. “What’s wrong?” I heard Jamie’s voice far away. I felt dizzy for a second but Will looked away, his back turned to me from across the lunch room. His black hair was so luscious and silky that my fingers burned with the temptation to run them though his hair. He looked masculine by the length of his broad shoulders.

“Hey Jen!” I turned to face him. “What?” I snapped.

“Jeez, liking the new guy?” He joked looking the direction where he stood.

“No. Something about him scares me. It’s strange. I haven’t even talked to him.”

He studied me. “It’s probably just a crush.”

It was funny though how he was curious and interested about it. Jamie was a cute guy, but I never thought of our friendship to get more than that. Besides, he was a whole higher level than I was in relationships. He had so many girlfriends in the past, but none of them were the right girl for him. At least what he claims. Once lunch was over, we did our personal handshake and took off.

Cold shiver again. Will was there. I took in a deep breath and sat next to him. “Hi.” I choked out. He didn’t say anything. “How’s school?”

He then answered. “Not bad.” His voice made me feel warm inside. It didn’t make sense. At first I felt scared and my intuition told me to stay away because he was dangerous. But now I felt safe. What’s wrong with me? “What’s your name?”

I gave him a smile. “Jennifer Wolff.”

“Will Hunter as you know by now.” He smiled. There went that warm feeling again. God, he’s gorgeous. I didn’t notice before. “Wow.”

“What?” His voice was so perfectly smooth, no cracks. His voice made my body tingle and my ears felt numb by hearing it.

“You have a really nice smile.”

He chuckled and thanked me.

When the teacher walked in, she started to take attendance and noticed Will sitting next to me. “Hey. You.” she pointed towards him and signaled him to come up. “New?” Will stood up and handed him the same paper he showed Mr. Garren. She just nodded without a word. “Alright, take a seat Mr. Hunter.” This time there was no introduction.

Once Will sat next to me, it didn’t take 1 full minute before a girl tapped Will on the back to get his attention. “Hi Will, I’m Kayla.”

Will turned to face her. “Nice to meet you.”

“Like wise.” She gave a giggle. Will turned back.

“Guess girls have been all over you today.” I whispered

“You have no idea.” He whispered back annoyed.

“I’m sorry, I don’t mean to.”

I didn’t know how close I was till I pulled away from him. He didn’t say anything. I felt so uncomfortable now. My heart started to bump faster, and how I hope he doesn’t think of me wrong.

There were few times where we had to share books, and read out loud. I didn’t read, but Will sure did. The teacher, Ms. Varner picked on him since he was new. And yet again his voice began to amaze me. I was attracted to it.

Once class was over, he stood up and was about to walk out but Jamie came in to pick me up, so he stopped. “Hey Wolff, ready to go home?” Will grinned at me and walked away. Jamie glanced behind him watching him leave.

Once he was gone, he spoke. “You have a class with him?”

“No, two classes.”

He studied my face for a while and finally blew out a breath. “You want to get a bite to eat?”

My heart raced. “Hell yes, I’m starving.”

He made fun of me while we made our way to the school parking lot where Jamie had his Saturn parked. “Can I drive?”

He gave it a long thought, and I was sure he was going to say no, but I gave him an innocent look. I knew he couldn’t deny that. “Fine.”

“Yes!-“

“But! If you mess up…you have to pay for lunch for a week.”

“Done deal.”

We shook hands on it, and I took the driver’s seat. I was happy. Jamie was never mean to me. Well, he was, but not horribly mean where I start hating him. I was a bad driver, I couldn’t pay attention to one little thing for long. And he knew I would someday end up damaging his car, but he didn’t care. He wouldn’t let me pay for the wreck. I knew that much.

He gave me directions to the new restaurant that was built just at the end of town. It was Italian, so once we got in, I had spaghetti and meat balls, and while Jamie ordered a huge sandwich he shared with me.

“Has Derek told you about the party yet?” I asked starting the conversation.

He shook his head. “Nope, it’s fine though. Don’t worry about it.” He then bit into his sandwich.

After that it was silent for a good 5 minutes which made me think about Jamie more. Ever since Middle school, Jamie always had my back. He protected me, stood up for me. He was like an older brother I never had and it felt safe being with him. It always made me mad when people thought we were going out, but by now everyone knew better.

“Hey. Nice car.” Jamie spoke to himself. He looked out the window where there outside was parked a black mustang with tinted windows. It was really dark you couldn’t see one thing on the inside. The rims were very bright in the sun you could grow blind. “My type of car.” I added. The license plate caught my eye. There were random numbers but 4 letters that I took interest. VMPR.

I looked away when Jamie asked if I was done. I nodded my head, and he got up. “Let’s go then lady.” I took one last bite and headed out. This time Jamie took the wheel.

It took 10 minutes to get to my house. He parked outside my garage. “Pick you up tomorrow morning?”

I nodded my head. “Yeah, Mom works tomorrow. Thanks Jamie, you’re a doll.”

He rolled his eyes. He hates it when I treat him like a girl. I got out of the car and went inside. I looked out the window. Jamie was out of the parking lot pulling back. He waved good bye at me and so did I. Once he was out of sight I went up to my room.
