Princess Ai Release Announced
Tokyopop has sent out a press release announcing the upcoming release of Coutney Love's Princess Ai, a collaborative work between Coutney Love, DJ Milky, Ai Yazawa and Misaho Kujiradou. Details about Princess AI were first made public last July.
Hopefully this manga will answer the age-old question: Did Kurt die when Courtney shot him or did her voice kill him first? It'd be brilliant if that were an actual scene.
Actually this is interesting since she signed a new contract with Virgin last year. Guess swindling Atlantic out of her contract over those Nirvana tapes paid off for her.
Still, why Ai Yazawa? As a fan of Ai Yazawa I feel obligated to pick this up, but then on the other hand I really hate Love, and I don't want to support her at all. I am torn in two.
I love Ai Yazawa's art, but I think it would have been a lot more interesting if Benkyo Tamaoki did the manga.
Heh… hate Love. Princess Ai is already available in some book stores. The art is really nice, but what the hell is with Courtney Love so obviously basing characters of her life? Princess Ai not only looks like her, but her potential love interest is named "Kent" and is in a band called "Nora".
That's right folks, as fun as it is conversing behind the concept of a manga about Courtney Love, I'll end the charade now and say Courtney Love was only a creative consultant on Princess Ai. She helped put the story together. It isn't about Love, it isn't written by Love, drawn by Love, or even produced by Love. She had a hand in the story concept. That's it. Manga fans that dig Ai Yazawa and DJ Milky would do well to pick this one up.
However, Love is one of those people who can inspire strong emotions in people. In my case, she inspires a strong gagging reflex. If you truly cannot stand the woman, it's a case of if you can ignore the fact that she was involved, and more importantly if it bothers you that she may get some of your money.
That's my problem. I don't want to support her at all.
Still, Ms. Love, I hope any money you make out of this venture will help out on your court fees and send you back to rehab. But I could have sworn when this was announced a couple of months ago that it was going to be about you.
Afterall, the idea of Princess Ai isn't old. It was announced over a year ago.
