Hollywood makes plans for Casshern
The new live-action Casshern film (based on the 1973 Robot Hunter Casshan anime series) may be on its way to the US.
Also mentioned was the possibility of an American remake of the film, following the trend of Dreamworks' version of The Ring and the upcoming US remake of The Jyuon (scheduled for release this fall).
Casshern is the first film from Kazuaki Kiriya, the husband of Jpop idol Hikaru Utada.
I loved Casshan Robot Hunter. Casshan can kick some major ass, in my opinion.
But wasn't The Ring remake bad enough?
Why didn't I like The Ring?
I didn't like the remake of The Ring, because the acting was lame, and they butchered the story.
Ok, I should just quit whining about The Ring remakes. The original Ringu story was not exactly what the Japanese movie was like, so if you want the original story, go pick up the book. Besides, it makes purist movie fans like me a bit more happy to know that Nakata Hideo, the director of the Japanese Ringu movie, has been added to the creative staff of the English Ringu 2 movie, and it's rumored he just may be made to be the new director. But take a look at how Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon did in theaters, even with rave reviews. Great movie or not, Americans have been spoiled with American movie special effects, and even though what I've seen of the Casshern movie trailer looks stunning, the... well, I don't know the term for it, but the atmosphere and the special effects don't look like something Americans are really used to.
