The original inspiration for me was the episode “The Chase” (Book 2, Episode 8) where Aang, Katara, Zuko, and Toph all fight against Zuko’s sister Azula. The four-element attack got me thinking how neat it would be to play elemental-controlling characters in this strange and bizarre, yet exciting realm.

Having watched most of the animated series Avatar, the Last Airbender, I had a wild idea - what if the world of Avatar could be played as an RPG? I immediately became frustrated after hunting down the ‘net searching for any RPG material even remotely related to the cartoon series, and with other avatar forum RPG sites (looks like the creators hadn't done any licencing in that area), so I decided to create my own version of the d20 RPG paper and pencil system with elements borrowed from standard RPGs like Tri-stat (which best emulates the anime genre feel of this show with their Big Eyes, Small Mouth configuration – quick and vicious fights, but still allow a storyline to pass through), WOTC D&D, and Palladium. I've already begun putting together the core system rules and character phenotypes (samples). And I'd kinda like to get some ideas from the rest of you gamemasters out there. What else would you suggest in a RPG system built from scratch, basically? Also anyone else familiar with Avatar, the Last Airbender is encouraged to help out and give me advice...
