This book does stand alone, but anyone reading it will want to go back and read the first two stories of Daine, just to get more of Pierce's unique blend of magic and adventure". -- Voice of Youth Advocates From the Publisher At last, Alanna of Trebond has become the first female knight errant in Tortall. She sets out on an impossible quest to find the Dominion Jewel, a legendary gem that, in the right hands, has limitless power for good. But while she searches for the one thing that can save her war-torn country, her nemesis returns from the dead and begins to wreak havoc. Only Alanna has the power to prevent Tortall’s utter destruction... In this final verse of the Song of the Lioness quartet, Alanna grows from heroine into legend. Review Quotes "Full of slam-bang action...young readers will rejoice."-- Kirkus "Alanna’s fans will be pleased to see their heroine triumph in all the ways that matter." -- School Library Journal "It has the appeal of good winning over evil and of the resilient courage of a believably heroic female protagonist." -- The Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books Reader Reviews Average Reader Review: Number of Reviews: 9 1. Alanna rocks!!!! Reviewer: S.J R from Ontario Date: 1/21/2003 12:55:48 PM I thought that this book was excellent!! It had a totally unexpected ending! I couldn't put it down. Great villian! Great heroine! Great everything! It's a must read. 2. A Great Ending Reviewer: Hannah from Medicine Hat AB Date: 4/23/2002 10:17:15 PM Although I'm sad that this was the last book, this one was great. One of the best page turners ever. The events were awesome and amazing. Alanna set out and did what she wanted. Tamora Pierce is a great author. 3. Alanna Rules! Reviewer: Lady Jillian the Lioness from Calgary, AB Date: 3/26/2001 5:06:37 PM In this final Song of the Lioness novel, Alanna and her man-at-arms, Coram, set out to the country of Saraine, which is undergoing a Civil War. They are searching for the Dominion Jewel, a gem that Alanna hopes will help Prince Jonathan save Tortall, which is once again at war, when he becomes King. They meet many interesting characters, such as Liam Ironarm, known as the Shang Dragon, Princess Thayet of Saraine, and her K'miri friend, Buri. In this book, Alanna finally chooses the man to marry, along with George Cooper's mother (to Myles, Alanna's adoptive father), George's cousin Rispah (to Coram), and Princess Thayet, (to whom I won't say). But this book isn't all Jewel-Finding and marrying. It is also a final battle against Roger of Conte, who has returned from the dead with the help of none other than Alanna's brother himself! You just gotta read this book! 4. You gotta read this! Reviewer: Karlee from Mississauga/Ontario (daddysgirl-sweetpea@home.com) Date: 1/24/2001 9:12:13 PM I've read this book alot! It is really good because action happens somewhere in the ten first pages! This is really exciting and Alanna is really down to earth. I've read most of the Tortall books but this is the one that started it all! 5. Great Reviewer: Lady Meagan from Kingston/Ontairo Date: 8/18/2000 2:40:48 PM This book was as good as the rest of the series. Read all of the reviews...
