Pharaoh Atem

Although we all know that his name isn't really 'Yami' or 'Yami Yugi,' it's more convenient to call him so.

Yami Yugi is shown to be an exceptional duelist who believes in the spirit of all duel monsters. This makes sense because of his ancient affinity with them. He is also extremely honor-bound and wants everyone else to be, as well; this is exhibted in many of his duels, in which he tries to tell his opponents the 'right way' to fight. Yami Yugi took the Duelist Kingdom as well as the Battle City title, stripping rival Seto Kaiba of his top rank. However, Yami Yugi only duels because he must (for one reason or another).
After hearing Pegasus reflect about the evil nature of the Millennium items, Yami Yugi began to wonder who he was and what kind of person he was. This all eventually led to Yugi setting him and Anzu up on a date, where they visited an Egyptian exhibit at the Domino Museum. The main attraction, a tablet depicting a battle between a priest and the pharaoh, informed Yami Yugi a bit about his past. His destiny was to join the Battle City tournament and obtain the three Egyptian god cards. Those cards, along with the tablet and the Millennium Puzzle, would awaken the Yami Yugi's rusty memories.

Yami Yugi had been hesitant to pursue his memories because he doesn't wish to leave Yugi. Yugi feels that same way, but they both know that they can only move forward. Yami Yugi has also made close friends during his second existence - Jounouchi, Anzu, Honda, and perhaps, even Kaiba.
