She is often called Rin by a few members of the family because 'suzu' translates to "small bell" in Japanese, and 'Rin' is the sound a small bell makes. Rin and Hatsuharu used to be in a relationship, but it ended when Akito found out and severely injured Rin by pushing her out of a window. Ever since, Rin has wanted to free Hatsuharu of everything that binds him, and so she has strived to find a way to break the curse. Rin is very stubborn and independent. She sees Tohru as an annoyance, but also sees her as a mother figure.
